In Florida we have to make our own hygge. In the fall and winter, I crave cozying up by the fire with a soft blanket, even better if the snow is falling outside the window! Instead, it’s 80 degrees half the days in December. So we have to get creative.
This year I discovered book after book with the same theme: a cute animal (or animals) are preparing for the change in seasons. Usually there are warm articles of clothing or homes involved. I am not ashamed to admit that I am probably a bigger fan of these than Arthur, but thankfully he’s on board and loves them too!!
Here are my favorite hygge children’s books for the fall and winter!
The Mitten – On a snowy day, a boy loses a mitten that becomes a home for lots of animals until the bear sneezes and it flies up into the air!
Mice Skating – A spunky mouse is convinced winter is the best season, but all her mice friends prefer to stay in their burrow. Until she introduces them to mice skating!
Fix and Stitch – An industrious squirrel is ready to close shop for the season so he can build his winter home, but he can’t resist helping out a few friends first.
Gingerbread Mouse – A little mouse spies the perfect mouse-sized home inside a cozy house.
A House in the Woods – When Bear and Moose spoil the two pigs’ homes, they band together to build a big house in the forest for all of them to share.
Bear Snores On – One by one the animals take refuge in bear’s cozy den, careful not to wake him. But a bit of pepper results in a big sneeze (classic), so bear ends up joining the party.
Do you know any other stories that fit the bill?? I can’t wait to discover more!
Updated! A Story for Small Bear – A small bear must hurry as she’s getting ready to hibernate for the winter so she has time to hear bedtime stories from mama bear. 🙂
